Watching my 82 year old dad sending emails to his friends (that’s the extent of this tech-capability) and then picking up the landline (remember that old thing?) to check in with his buddies some of whom are ailing and alone, most of whom are terrified and all of whom are at high-risk of being taken down by this virus
· Seeing more care in the community than I remember noticing before. I love this one called Aid Local –a directory of Canadian small businesses who provide gift cards or delivery services that we can support throughout the pandemic
· Realizing that my grey hair (normally beautifully highlighted) is starting to show and there is nothing I can do about it (unless I try a drug store job which I haven’t done since grade 9) and kind of loving that freedom!
· Hearing stories about people that live side by side who never spend much time connecting, who are now show neighbourly kindness - waving at each other, smiling and striking up conversations from balconies or across sidewalks because we can't help but connect and show compassion for others
· Reading that 90% of WestJet staff volunteered to save the organization through departures or leaves because they care so much about the company surviving through this period of extreme challenge
· Like playing games with teenagers because we all have time on our hands (when was the last time you had TIME?)
What silver linings do you see?
